About This Course
This two-day Recent Traumatic Episode and Group Traumatic Episode Protocol training developed by Elan Shapiro and Brurit Laub leads you step by step through comprehensive, research validated protocols for working with survivors of recent trauma both individually and in groups. While EMDR Basic Training provides an overview of one of the recent events protocols, this comprehensive protocol offers a deeper understanding and sheds light on broader applications of how and when to use EMDR for early trauma intervention.
Why Take This Course?
Receive the latest R-TEP/G-TEP manual, including protocols, scripts, and worksheets updated by co-creator Elan Shapiro in late 2017.
Experience expanded practice time and support to develop your skills. Understand how to respond effectively to traumatic events experienced both by your clients and your community.Learn creative applications, such as using G-TEP for couples. The EMDR R-TEP protocol is applied when a recent event has occurred that requires containment and additional assistance with integration beyond the standard protocol. It is a comprehensive approach to treating recent events in the belief that serious trauma symptoms may be prevented by receiving early interventions. The protocol contains built in checks to address stuck points quickly while recognizing the importance of meeting the clients where they are and taking it step by step. It is a comprehensive approach to treating recent events in the belief that serious trauma symptoms are prevented by receiving early interventions. The EMDR G-TEP protocol is a group application useful for small groups including couples, families, and those impacted by the same traumatic event, such as a natural disaster or act of violence.
Participants Will Learn To:
- Improve Case Conceptualization by understanding the continuum of trauma from Acute Stress Disorder to Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
- Determine whether a client needs symptom reduction focused on a specific presenting concern or comprehensive treatment that targets multiple maladaptive themes.
- Navigate choice points in history taking and treatment planning, including when to use the Affect Scan and how to organize information around different types of symptom clusters.
- Understand the three Negative Cognition Categories and how to generate appropriate Negative and Positive Cognitions in the Assessment Phase. Recognize when and how to offer effective Cognitive Interweaves.
- Know when and how to use EMD: a form of contained processing used to desensitize intrusive traumatic content and quickly improve functioning without overwhelming the client.
Participants must have completed EMDR Basic Training with an EMDRIA-approved training provider.
